Garth Tunnel was opened in 1905 by the Barry Railway. It was approx 450m long. It was closed around 1963. Unfortunatly both portals are now securly locked off. The tunnel has been breached a short distance in from the south portal to create an access route to the quarry near Gwaelod-y-Garth.
